Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes or whole tomatoes, crushed by hand
  • 1 tsp sugar optional, to balance acidity
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or basil
  • Optional: fresh basil leaves

Cooking Instructions
 

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook for 6-8 minutes until soft and translucent.
  3. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Stir in tomatoes, sugar (if using), salt, pepper, and dried herbs.
  5. Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low.
  6. Simmer uncovered for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning. Add fresh basil if using.
  8. Use immediately or cool and store.
